General Soccer Terms
Crash- After ball crosses half field into opposing teams’ side, all four offenders (LM, CM, RM, Striker) will “crash” towards the goal. This is where we score so this is where we will go. Players will still be mindful of their position and will attempt to stay in their respective area and will also be mindful of the offsides rule.
Angle- At half field, defender farthest from ball falls back, angling toward goal to set up as last defender in between opposing attacker and goal. Our last resort. After play resolves, defender returns to normal position.
Fire- After keeper gains control of ball, keeper will immediately yell, “Fire” signaling to all five defenders (LM, CM, RM, LD, RD) to start running down field to initiate a counterattack. Keeper will run at an angle towards the sideline, will stop at the end of the goalie box and then roll the ball to teammate of choice. Keeper will then back pedal to goal watching the ball at all times. No drop kicks allowed unless pre discussed with coach. Goal is to get the ball across half field in less than 10 seconds.
Wall- During opposing team goal kick, all four offenders (LM, CM, RM, Striker) will from a “wall” along the top of the goalie box line, keeping in mind that they cannot touch the ball until it crosses said line. Offenders will jockey for position to put themselves in best spot to intercept kick. Intent is to intercept kick and take a quick shot on goal. Very effective but can be risky. If ball gets past the wall, we’re left with just two defenders. Offenders need to be prepared to sprint back to play defense.
